Dog Bite AttorneysAlmost 5 million people nationwide are attacked or bitten by dogs each year in the United States. According to the American Humane Association, more children suffer dog bite injuries than measles, mumps and whooping cough combined. Victims are entitled to compensation when another person's negligence is proven. Individuals who provoke a dog are not eligible for compensation under the law; however, children of a certain age may be determined to be incapable of provocation.

Most homeowners' insurance pays for dog-related injuries. The Insurance Information Institute reports that dog bite related claims have quadrupled in five years. Some frightening statistics include:
• Approximately 30% of the attacks are caused by unrestrained dogs off the owner's property.
• 22% of reported incidents involve a restrained dog on the owner's property.
• 48% of incidents occur on the owner's property with an unrestrained animal.
• Over half of those attacked are children.

Dog attacks represent some of the most gruesome injuries that can be suffered, particularly when a child is involved. Dog bites have become an epidemic in the United States. Unfortunately most of these attacks involve children. The law protects those bitten by dogs allowing victims possible compensation for their injuries.

According to the CDC (Center for Disease Control)
  • Dogs have bitten nearly 2% of the U.S. population that is more than 4.7 million people annually.
  • Dog bites send nearly 334,000 victims to the hospital emergency rooms per year, that breaks down to 914 per day.
  • Almost 800,000 bites per year or 1 out of every 6 are serious enough that they require medical attention.
  • Bites to children represent more than 50% of the total number of cases in the U.S.
26% are children compared with 12% being adults but all requiring medical care.
  • The average number of deaths in the U.S. are 17 per year most of those were children.
  • In dog attacks the odds that it will be a child are 7 out of 10.
  • The scene of an attack is usually home or a familiar place. The majority of dog attacks that happen are in a familiar place.
  • Dogs do not discriminate they will bite family or friends.
  • The vast majority of biting dogs belong to the victim’s family or friend.
